Hill House Home, the luxe interiors and bedding company, has partnered with the equally-as-luxe art gallery Lehmann Maupin this fall to present the concept of accessible art collecting. A reception was held on September 26 at Hill House Home’s flagship store in the West Village. Featured at the brand’s townhouse are curated works of art from Lehmann Maupin’s illustrious roster of artists. Works presented include pieces by the artists Klara Kristalova, David Salle, Do Ho Suh, Mickalene Thomas and Cecilia Vicuña.

The opening night presentation included a discussion with artist, curator, and advisor Maynard Monrow and Hill House Home founder Nell Diamond. The two discussed the ideals, aspects and challenges involved in beginning an art collection. The West Village flagship space is designed to resemble a New York City studio apartment, so it made for a perfect setting to introduce artworks to a first-time art buyer. Here inside the space, art-collecting newbies can imagine the pieces in their own living spaces, instead of inside an impersonal art gallery. Price points start around $2,000 for individual works of art showcased in the townhouse.

Hill House Home’s Diamond spoke about the partnership with the art gallery. “At Hill House Home, it’s so important that our customers feel empowered by their homes. Loving the space that you live in is all about discovering pieces that mean something to you, and combining them to create a world that is truly yours—a sanctuary. Lehmann Maupin is a world-renowned authority, and we’re incredibly excited to partner with them to bring some incredible artists to Bleecker Street. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the work of some of the most exciting artists in the world to our flagship storefront, and we can’t wait to unveil the results.”

Aiming to recruit a younger, more novice group of art collectors, the artwork showcased in the presentation is from a quite esteemed roster of artists covering a vast range of work. A very solid collection of work from Lehmann Maupin’s artists is represented throughout the townhouse. Alicia Pestalozzi who worked on organizing the presentation for the gallery, spoke about the importance of selecting that piece of art for your first collection. “For those buying their first piece or beginning a collection, it is a very important commitment, and it’s my job to help explain what that represents. The first step for any collector, at any budget, is to spend the time looking and learning. We live in such an image saturated world, but a work of art represents much more than the image at face value—there is history, cultural context, the artists own background and education, how it relates to your own world view—and it’s truly a pleasure to open up this new way of looking at art.”

Lehmann Maupin is committed to reaching out and presenting art to this new generation of collectors, or perhaps even a latecomer to the world of art. Sarah Calodney, a director at gallery, expounds on this commitment and the presentation with Hill House Home. “Lehmann Maupin has always taken an active role in educating and introducing its artists to new audiences. This presentation allows us to further that mission, in a setting that most will find approachable and welcoming, with the incredible bonus of seeing the design potential of artwork in a stylish home environment.”
