PowPac Community Theatre presents Noel Coward’s Private Lives, an intimate comedy. “You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them..” Newly wed couples and long term love. A certain kind of funny. Flippant, sarcastic wit. If this kind of humor is your kind of thing, you will find yourself laughing all the way through.

When exs find themselves with connecting terraces on the wedding night of each couple, conflict ensues.

Noel Coward had a famous English theatre star, named Gertrude Lawrence. He knew her since childhood and many of his plays were written for them to perform together. Private Lives fell into this category.

As you watch remember this was a different era and that Coward wrote to shock.  Let yourself enjoy the moment.

Larry Steckling directed this five person cast in this delightful show. Richard Rivera plays Elyot. He was my favorite as I have become more and more a fan over the past couple years. I find myself laughing repeatedly over his lines and actions. Eliza Huf, plays Elyot new young wife. This was my first time seeing her but I hope not the last. She did an extremely good job, Linda England, played the other wife, bringing her own laughs. James Winkler plays the other husband. He was mainly the straight man. The more serious role the others played off of. Which was weird because he’s been doing stand up comedy. The final member of this wonderful cast, Diane Thrasher, She plays the maid, and I only wish she had a larger role. The maid didn’t come in until the third act. “A Three act play”. Thrasher was straight up fabulous.

The play takes place in Deauville, France, in 1930, and moves to Paris France in the second act whewre it remains  for the third. One intermission between Act 1 and Act 2. The costumes were great especially Sybil’s reflecting the 30’s perfectly. The set, two identical terraces for act 1 and welcominfliving room of Amanda’s flat in the second and third.

Be a fly on the wall of two marriages – well three actually. Escape for a couple hours.
